Dyslexia

But this seems like an interesting project. It seems interesting because it approaches the problem of a typeface from what seems like the same rules I have about type: Readability, and Legibility. I however cannot divorce myself from emotion and attitude in type, and I judge typefaces also on aesthetics.

Dyslexie does not concern itself with aesthetics. It has a more noble cause. It is a typeface that tries to accomplish a simple goal: Make a typeface that is easily read by people with Dyslexia.

When they use it, they make fewer errors whilst they are reading. It makes reading easier for them and it takes less effort. The Dyslexia font is used by several schools, universities, speech therapists and remedial teachers.

Secret confession: I’ve actually never been crazy about this symbol. I know, blasphemy.

Vincent van Gogh, His Death and His Mental State

Vincent van Gogh

There is oddly several stories about van Gogh in the news the last week. I would like to summarize my feelings about van Gogh here:

  • He was not insane.
  • He was not a madman.
  • He probably had epilepsy.
  • He drank absinthe, which exaggerated his negative traits, as does all alcohol for most alcoholics.

I think the rest is speculation.

But here are some great articles from people who probably know what they’re talking about:

Unusable Stock Photos

This is not a comprehensive list of terrible stock photos by any means. Nor is it a list of the worst I’ve ever seen. But Hey, I still find it amusing. With each one, ask yourself: “What did the photographer think this could be used for?”
